Rambling from peak to peak

Starting from Aldein, it is possible to go rambling on the Weisshorn and Schwarzhorn peaks, without great difficulty or a lot of experience of the Alps. You just need to be sure-footed and have a head for heights. From the summits there is a magnificent all-round view of the Ortler range, the Ötztal Alps, the Schlern, the Rosengarten, the Latemar, the Zanggen, the Brenta range, and over the Etsch and Eisack valleys.
Special tip: The Weisshorn is white sarl dolomite, the Schwarzhorn is reddish-green Bozen quartz porphyry. The reason for the very different nature of the neighbouring peaks is the so-called "Trudner line", a fault in the earth’s crust. Along this fault line the Schwarzhorn was pushed up, over 1000 meters, relative to the Weisshorn. The strata lying on the porphyry were carried away. As a result, the porphyry reaches the same height today as the much younger sarl dolomite.
